Telepsychiatry & Virtual Visits

HIPAA-compliant telepsychiatry services for medication management, therapy, and follow-up visits. Board-certified psychiatrists available via secure video from anywhere in Florida.

What Is Telepsychiatry?

Telepsychiatry is the delivery of psychiatric services through secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing technology. It allows you to meet with your board-certified psychiatrist or licensed therapist in real time, face-to-face, from any private location with an internet connection. At RECO Integrated Psychiatry, telepsychiatry is a core component of our service model, providing the same high-quality, evidence-based care you would receive during an in-person visit, with the added convenience and accessibility of virtual delivery.

The growth of telepsychiatry has been driven by both technological advances and a growing body of research demonstrating that virtual psychiatric care produces clinical outcomes equivalent to in-person care for most conditions and service types. Large-scale studies published in peer-reviewed psychiatric journals have found no significant differences in diagnostic accuracy, treatment response, patient satisfaction, or therapeutic alliance between telepsychiatry and face-to-face visits. For many patients, telepsychiatry actually improves outcomes by removing barriers to care such as transportation difficulties, geographic distance, scheduling constraints, and the stigma that some individuals associate with visiting a psychiatric office.

At RECO Integrated Psychiatry, we recognized early that expanding access to high-quality psychiatric care requires meeting patients where they are, both literally and figuratively. Our telepsychiatry platform enables us to serve patients throughout the state of Florida, whether you live in Delray Beach, Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, or any community in between. The same board-certified psychiatrists and licensed therapists who see patients in our Delray Beach office provide telepsychiatry visits using the same evidence-based protocols, collaborative treatment planning, and measurement-based care approaches that define our in-person practice.

Benefits of Virtual Psychiatric Care

Telepsychiatry offers numerous advantages that make psychiatric care more accessible, convenient, and sustainable for patients at every stage of treatment.

  • Convenience and flexibility: Eliminate travel time and meet with your provider from your home, office, or any private location. This is particularly valuable for patients with demanding work schedules, childcare responsibilities, mobility limitations, or chronic pain conditions that make travel difficult.
  • Increased access: Patients in rural areas, underserved communities, or regions with few psychiatric providers can access the same board-certified specialists available in urban medical centers. Geography is no longer a barrier to quality psychiatric care.
  • Reduced barriers to treatment: For patients who experience social anxiety, agoraphobia, or stigma related to visiting a psychiatric office, telepsychiatry provides a more comfortable entry point into treatment that can improve engagement and follow-through.
  • Continuity of care: If you travel frequently, relocate within Florida, or experience a temporary illness that prevents in-person visits, telepsychiatry ensures uninterrupted treatment without gaps that could undermine your progress.
  • Equivalent clinical outcomes: Research confirms that telepsychiatry produces diagnostic accuracy, treatment outcomes, and patient satisfaction rates comparable to face-to-face care for medication management, psychotherapy, and most psychiatric assessments.
  • Family involvement: Virtual visits make it easier to include family members in treatment sessions, even if they live in different locations, facilitating better communication, psychoeducation, and family support.
  • Reduced exposure to illness: Virtual visits eliminate the need to sit in a waiting room, reducing exposure to communicable illnesses, which is particularly important for immunocompromised patients or during flu and respiratory virus seasons.

What Services Are Available via Telepsychiatry?

Most of the psychiatric services offered at RECO Integrated Psychiatry can be delivered effectively through telepsychiatry. Our virtual service offerings include:

Medication Management

Psychiatric medication management is exceptionally well-suited to telepsychiatry. Follow-up appointments to review medication efficacy, adjust dosages, monitor side effects, and refill prescriptions can all be conducted through secure video. Your psychiatrist can assess your clinical status, review standardized rating scale results, and send electronic prescriptions directly to your pharmacy during the visit.

Psychotherapy

Individual psychotherapy via video has been extensively studied and validated. Cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, interpersonal therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and other evidence-based modalities can all be delivered effectively through telepsychiatry. The therapeutic alliance, which is the foundation of effective therapy, has been shown to develop just as strongly in virtual settings as in person.

Psychiatric Follow-Up Visits

Routine follow-up appointments to monitor treatment progress, discuss concerns, and update treatment plans are ideally suited for virtual delivery. These visits maintain the continuity and consistency of care that are essential for optimal psychiatric outcomes.

Initial Consultations

Many initial psychiatric consultations can be conducted via telepsychiatry, allowing you to begin the evaluation and treatment process without waiting for an in-person opening. Your psychiatrist will advise if an in-person visit is needed for any component of your assessment.

Crisis Consultation

When you are experiencing an acute increase in symptoms and need to speak with your psychiatrist urgently, telepsychiatry allows for rapid access without the delay of travel. For true psychiatric emergencies involving imminent safety concerns, in-person or emergency services may be recommended.

Services That Require In-Person Visits

Certain services require physical presence at our Delray Beach office, including TMS therapy, IV ketamine infusions, Spravato treatment, neuropsychological testing, genetic testing sample collection, and some initial psychiatric evaluations. Your treatment team will guide you on which appointments are appropriate for virtual versus in-person delivery.

Technology Requirements

Accessing telepsychiatry at RECO Integrated Psychiatry is designed to be simple and straightforward. Here is what you need:

  • Device: Any smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with a working camera and microphone. Most devices manufactured within the last five years are fully compatible.
  • Internet connection: A stable broadband internet connection with a minimum speed of 1.5 Mbps for both upload and download. Wi-Fi or cellular data (4G LTE or 5G) both work well.
  • Web browser: Our platform works through your web browser with no special software or app downloads required. Supported browsers include Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge.
  • Private space: A quiet, private room where you can speak openly without being overheard. This ensures confidentiality and allows you to engage fully in your session.

Privacy, Security, and HIPAA Compliance

Protecting your privacy during virtual visits is a top priority at RECO Integrated Psychiatry. Our telepsychiatry platform is built on enterprise-grade security infrastructure that meets or exceeds all HIPAA requirements for the electronic transmission of protected health information.

All video sessions are encrypted end-to-end using industry-standard encryption protocols, ensuring that your conversation cannot be intercepted or accessed by unauthorized parties during transmission. Our platform is hosted on HIPAA-compliant servers, undergoes regular security audits and penetration testing, and maintains Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with all third-party technology vendors as required by federal law.

Telepsychiatry sessions at RECO Integrated Psychiatry are never recorded. Your session exists only in real time between you and your provider. Clinical notes from your session are documented in your secure electronic health record, which is protected by the same HIPAA-compliant security measures used for all patient records.

We also take steps to verify your identity at the beginning of each session and confirm that you are located within a state where your provider is licensed to practice. These measures ensure legal compliance and protect the integrity of your care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. A substantial body of peer-reviewed research demonstrates that telepsychiatry produces clinical outcomes comparable to in-person care across a wide range of psychiatric conditions and service types. Studies have found no significant differences in diagnostic accuracy, treatment response, medication adherence, patient satisfaction, or therapeutic alliance between virtual and face-to-face psychiatric visits. For some patients, particularly those with transportation barriers, social anxiety, or scheduling constraints, telepsychiatry actually improves outcomes by facilitating more consistent engagement with treatment.

You need a device with a camera and microphone (any modern smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer will work) and a stable internet connection with at least 1.5 Mbps speed. Our platform runs through your web browser, so no special software downloads or installations are required. We recommend using Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge for the best experience. You will also need a private, quiet space where you can speak openly without being overheard. If you have any technical concerns, our support team can help you test your setup before your first appointment.

Yes. Most major commercial insurance plans, Medicare, and many Medicaid programs cover telepsychiatry services. In many cases, telehealth visits are covered at the same rate as in-person visits, with the same copay, coinsurance, and deductible structure. Florida state law requires insurance parity for telehealth services, meaning insurers cannot charge more for a virtual visit than they would for the equivalent in-person service. Our insurance specialists will verify your specific telehealth benefits before your appointment so you know exactly what to expect.

Yes. Our board-certified psychiatrists can prescribe and manage most psychiatric medications during telepsychiatry appointments, including antidepressants, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, anti-anxiety medications, and ADHD medications. Prescriptions are sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy, often before your session even ends. Certain controlled substance prescriptions may have additional regulatory requirements, which your psychiatrist will discuss with you. The prescribing standards and clinical rigor applied during virtual visits are identical to those in our in-person practice.

Our psychiatrists and therapists are licensed to practice in the state of Florida. To receive telepsychiatry services from RECO Integrated Psychiatry, you must be physically located within Florida during your appointment. This is a legal requirement based on medical licensing laws. However, you can be anywhere within Florida, whether you are at home in Miami, on a business trip in Tallahassee, or visiting family in the Panhandle. If you have questions about licensing in other states, please contact our office.

Technical issues are uncommon but we have protocols in place to handle them smoothly. If your video connection drops during a session, simply click the link again to rejoin. If the connection cannot be re-established, your provider will call you by phone to complete the session or reschedule. We recommend having a phone nearby as a backup communication method. Our technical support team is available to help troubleshoot any issues before or during your appointment. In our experience, the vast majority of telepsychiatry sessions proceed without any technical interruptions.
