Background
David Niknafs founded the RECO program in 2013, and RECO Integrated Psychiatry is the natural extension of his belief that mental health and psychiatric care belong together — not in separate silos. His personal recovery showed him how often a person's psychiatric needs go unaddressed in addiction treatment, and how often addiction histories get ignored in psychiatric care.
RECO Integrated Psychiatry was built to close that gap. Under David's leadership, the practice provides integrated psychiatric care, advanced neuromodulation including TMS, and Spravato treatment — all coordinated with the rest of the RECO network for continuity. It's the part of the network that ensures psychiatric care is treated as foundational, not optional.
Approach to Care
David's perspective on psychiatry is shaped by personal experience: a good psychiatrist can change the trajectory of a recovery, and poor psychiatric care can sabotage even the strongest treatment plan. He has built RECO Integrated Psychiatry around clinicians who take that responsibility seriously — and around investment in advanced modalities (TMS, Spravato) that work for the patients conventional approaches have failed.
His leadership emphasizes integration: a patient seen at RECO Integrated Psychiatry isn't disconnected from the rest of their care. The same network that handled detox or residential treatment knows the same patient at the psychiatry visit. That continuity is the differentiator.
Education & Credentials
David holds the CNDAI (Certified National Drug & Alcohol Interventionist) and NCIP (Nationally Certified Intervention Professional) credentials. These certifications, combined with his lived recovery experience and his track record building RECO from a single practice into an integrated network, are the qualifications he brings to the founder/CEO role.
What to Expect
Patients of RECO Integrated Psychiatry typically don't meet David in the clinical setting — but they experience the standards he's set. The fact that psychiatrists at RECO have time for thorough evaluations. The fact that medication management is integrated with therapy. The fact that advanced options like TMS and Spravato are available without being oversold.
David's commitment is that RECO Integrated Psychiatry should be the kind of psychiatric care he wishes had been available to him at his own lowest point. If you meet him outside the clinic, you'll find that conviction in everything he says about why the practice exists.
