Group Facilitator

Medication buys the space to do the work. Groups and skills work are where the work actually happens.

Background

Joshua Schamach, CAC, ICADC, supports clients at RECO Integrated Psychiatry as a group facilitator, complementing the network’s medication-management, TMS, and Spravato work with skills-based process and psychoeducational groups.

Joshua has facilitated groups at RECO Intensive, House of Discernment, Galt Ocean Rehab, Legacy Healing Center, and Solutions Recovery. His work is informed by clinical training and his own lived experience in recovery — a combination that gives him credibility with clients whose psychiatric care intersects with substance use recovery.

Approach

At RECO Integrated Psychiatry, Joshua’s groups translate the internal shifts of psychiatric care into daily skills. He draws on motivational interviewing, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness practice, and structures groups to build the self-awareness and resilience that turn medication gains into sustainable change.

He is pursuing an M.S. in Professional Counseling Psychology at Florida International University as part of his LMHC track.

Education & Credentials

CAC, ICADC. M.S. Professional Counseling Psychology (in progress) and B.A. Psychology, summa cum laude, from FIU. B.S. Business Administration-Finance, cum laude, University of Florida. Interdisciplinary background including medical education, research on exercise and allostatic load in adults in recovery, science instruction, and ER triage volunteer service.

What to Expect

Clients at RECO Integrated Psychiatry find in Joshua a facilitator who takes them seriously, challenges them fairly, and helps them use their psychiatric care as one part of a larger recovery.
