Spiritual Advisor

Medicine treats the symptom. Meaning-making treats the person around the symptom. Both are needed.

Background

Rabbi Mark Rotenberg, CADC, CPC, MJE, DD, is the Spiritual Advisor for the RECO network, including RECO Integrated Psychiatry. His role at the psychiatric side of the network is to hold the meaning-making and existential dimension of care alongside medication management, TMS, and Spravato.

Mark spent 25+ years in the recovery field and 18 of those specifically focused on psycho-spiritual therapy. His training path includes UCLA’s addiction counselor program and Rabbinic ordination at the Academy for Jewish Religion in Los Angeles, following a 15-year career in Arts and Design.

Approach

Integrated psychiatric care raises questions that medication alone cannot answer. Rabbi Mark works with clients who are exploring who they are as symptoms lift, why suffering appeared in their life, and how to build a personal spiritual practice that supports the clinical work.

He is deliberately non-dogmatic. His theology is open and inclusive, developed through his own struggle with faith and refined through decades of working with people of every background. He believes anyone seeking the spiritual and divine can build a personal regime that guides them through change.

Education & Credentials

Ordained Rabbi, Academy for Jewish Religion (Los Angeles); UCLA Addiction Counselor Certificate; B.A. Design, San Jose State University. Credentialed as CADC, CPC, MJE, and DD.
